Public Power Week Call for Submissions from APPA

I just had a meeting with APPA and they mentioned that they are seeking photo submissions of utility staff that work behind the scenes (e.g. not linemen or GMs) for a Public Power Week project. I offered to reachout to our MEAM group for submissions as they had not gotten very many photos from Massachusetts yet. Here is what APAP sent me...

We here at APPA have embarked on a nationwide thank you effort for Public Power Week (October 3-9) by celebrating select groups of behind-the-scenes staff and would love to collect more pictures from Massachusetts. So far we have some from Braintree & Littleton based on role-specific invites sent – and, overall, are up to 40 states and 4 U.S. territories working on sending us pictures so far.

We are putting faces to roles to thank the “People Behind the Power” with pictures provided by APPA members. Then we’ll compile short videos of each role, explain what they do to help keep the lights on, and post the videos to our social media channels and in our newsletter during Public Power Week. Our goal is to cover ~25 utilities in each of these role video with pictures from across the 49 public power states and our five U.S. territories. We have lots of pictures from some of roles we piloted our outreach effort on, but these are the ones we’ve just begun outreach for:

  • customer service representatives

  • grid & power plant operators

  • resource planners & mutual aid coordinators

  • administrative staff (payroll, accounting, finance, etc)

  • IT/OT

  • engineers/technical staff

  • legal

  • fleet services (anyone associated with procuring or keeping fleets rolling)

  • government affairs (regulatory, legislative, environmental affairs)

We are asking for pictures by August 20. Feel free to share with folks in Massachusetts! They’re welcome to contact me for additional information.
