SELCO Virtual Open House Event

Each year SELCO hosts a field trip for all Shrewsbury Public School 4th grade students. Because this year's Open House has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SELCO has put together a "Virtual Open House" to provide our students with a taste of the experience they are missing out on due to cancellation of off-site field trips.

SELCO produced three in-house videos: Virtual Truck Tour, Electrical Safety (featuring Hazardous Hamlet), and Renewable Energy and EVs. We also included a video from Electrical Safety World and an accompanying worksheet to hammer home the importance of electrical safety. The Virtual Open House was developed in conjunction with the School Department to ensure it works with their curriculum. The event will take place over two days, with a ~20 minute lesson scheduled each day. Shout out to @pcollins and @Rick Maksian for their great work on these videos!

Virtual Earth Day Events 2021

Earth Day is April 22nd. Has anyone had any particularly successful virtual events this year? I may want to put something together, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel if you've got a program that's proven to work. Tell me about your 2020 virtual events!

We did a virtual kickoff event for our 2021 Energy Programs: https://youtu.be/t0XisCMAIJQ

We had a pretty good turnout and had a lot of questions and participation.

Power Outage Presentation

Has anyone done presentations or events specifically on power outages? We are working on a virtual event with our Council on Aging and the Director asked if we could present on the causes and best practices for power outages. If anyone has done a similar presentation and wouldn't mind sharing, could you post it here or email me - aleary@belmontlight.com

Thanks!

@Joyce Mulvaney Well, there were some snafus with the technology on the COA setting up and starting the Zoom, but I think the presentation itself went well. It was me and our Director of Engineering & Ops and it was about 30 minutes of material. Here is the powerpoint attached. And @Sandy Richter, thank you so much for the recovery image. I used it in slide 9 to show our priorities when restoring power. Any questions on this, let me know!

How did you show off the MEAM Public Power week video?

At MGED we premiered the video as the opener to our Commission Meeting which happened to fall on this week. It ran live and is being replayed all month long. We also added it to our Youtube library and on our website here:

It's also getting more play on our two towns' local cable access. And it's getting great reviews! Our coworkers love spotting their own clips. That effort made this a really hometown experience! Thanks video crew!

We posted our video on social, added it to our YouTube channel, and had our public access PEG channels run it between meetings and other programming.

Public Power Week 2020 - Virtual Events?

Is anyone planning virtual events for this year's Public Power Week celebration? I'd love to hear what everyone is doing and how you're celebrating while managing the realities of the pandemic.
